Headcovering For Christian Women, What Should She Wear?

Hello Sisters!
Praise the Lord for another day to serve Him! This article is for Christian women who have learned the command in 1 Corinthians 11 to cover their heads.  If you are not aware of that, please go with your husband or spiritual authority to our ministry site and read a detailed article about it:

We also have an article on women wearing it all the time: http://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/2018/02/should-christian-women-wear.html

We have been getting this question a lot through our ministry so here I just share what we see in scripture and practice in our home.

What kind of headcovering should a Christian woman wear?

What we see in scripture is this that women are to cover their heads including their hair, which is their glory.  (As stated in the above teachings.)

We also know, based on the fact that scripture commands not to adorn, women need to find a plain (solid) cloth, not one that is patterened with flowers etc or fancy with frills and edging of lace etc.  (See the article on this blog about adornment)

 So we understand that a godly woman should cover her head on a continuous basis, not just during a gathering of the body and that the covering should be plain (not adorned) and cover the head / virtually all of the hair.

There are people who will see pictures in history books and follow those by wrapping a full scarf totally around the head and neck, leaving the face open.

Some people look at the catacombs and see a cloth draped over the head leaving a bit of the hair in the front visible.

Others will look to more recent coverings such as those that are wrapped around the top of the head with bound up hair and clipped on at the nape of the neck with a shorter veil but women need to be careful to make sure they are covering and hiding the head/hair and not have it so far back on the head or so small that it does not align with God's Word.

...and others who wear their hair down with a long cloth to cover it.

Some wear a cloth wrapped around to hide and hold the hair and the veil ties under it.

Are all these covering the head?  It would seem so based on scripture simply saying to cover the head (including the hair) with something that comes down.

 There is a problem though...there are women who claim Christ wearing what they call headcoverings but they do not cover the head and hair.  For instance there are those who leave most of their hair hanging out and wear a small cloth.

A small slip of material....

Or some that put their hair into a bun and wear a little cover on it.

None of these (last 3) are biblical coverings that covers the head / hair, to hide it.  This would be sinful before a holy God to not be obedient to scripture.

Sisters, if you struggle with not wanting to cover your head to the glory of God... you need to examine yourself and seek out the pride and vanity you may have inside and instead replace it with godliness as described in scriptures such as 1 Peter 3:
1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
