The Blessing of a Window and Homemade Hummus

Image
Greetings sisters in Christ! Spring is in full swing here at our little off grid homestead and we're still working hard getting projects done.  One such project is that we had a window in our bedroom that was covered by metal on the outside.  At the time we were setting this place up and brother Jim was putting the roof and porch on, we decided to just tin over the one window on the end of our bedroom.  (You can read how we set up our homestead HERE .) Just the other day brother Jim said we should look into opening it for better air flow so that's what he did today!  He had to cut the metal away from the window and frame it. What a blessing that is because it lets in more light and lots more air.  Tomorrow brother Jim is going into our utility cabin, the little one by the house, and putting in some shelves for me so that I have like a pantry area again for my food storage.  I'm excited because I have piles of stuff in there just waiting to be o...

Van Projects

Image
Greetings sisters! Have you been busy lately?  We have, the past many days and have a lot more in front of us.  Recently we went to get some supplies for a couple van projects... It's amazing how fast a little box of hardware adds up in price! Brother Jim had an interesting time  picking out lumber  because  most of what he  was  looking for  was warped so  it took a little while to find straight ones. He eventually found enough :-) This is what the back of the van currently looks like.  He removed the generator and accessories so he could build a new enclosure.  He's also planning a new storage space on top. I'm excited to see what it will look like when it's done. We are looking forward to getting these projects done and moving on again, Lord willing. What a peaceful drive through the countryside.  A fire is a rare treat for us!  In...

Cargo Van Conversion to our Camper Van

Image
Greetings Sisters, I give you this verse... But godliness with contentment is great gain.  (1 Timothy 6:6) Being content goes contrary to the world who is always striving for more.  In fact my husband, brother Jim, and I are striving to minimize and downsize even more than we have. Let me share with you one way we are doing that! The first mission trip we took, we lived in the back of our minivan.  We each had 24" of space to sleep...it was cozy:-) We had our clothes and food stored under the bed so there wasn't room to fully sit up and it was a challenge to dress, but we were content and thankful to be used of the Lord to be out in the world proclaiming the truth.  That little van was our safe haven in a dark world. See this cargo trailer? We spent the next 2 summers (and part of the fall) living in that  (6' x 12')  and Jim's carving tools were in the van. Well...we decided that we wanted start working toward more mission trips all yea...
