Off Grid Living, Sewing and Dehydrating

Good evening sisters! How was your day?  I thought I'd share a bit of my day with you.  I'm enjoying my Titus 2 duties on our homestead life for the short time we are here but it's all for preparation to go again. I hand washed more clothes then dug out my sewing machine to work on a few simple projects.   I had a shirt that I wanted to add a pocket to so I cut off a pocket from a junk shirt... And sewed it on.  Nope, the materials don't match and the color is a bit off but I don't care, I'm thankful to have a pocket:-) While I was out there I had a visitor:-) She kept coming and another one with some yearlings stopped by also.  It's hunting season here and I'm hoping they make it through.  (FYI we're not against hunting.) I had to take in the waist of a couple skirts so I decided to show you what I do. In between, something funny happened. And here I show you something else that might make you smile. I also thought I'd share a bit more about th

Solar Dehydrating Corn (Frozen and Canned)

Greetings sisters in Christ! Lately the weather brings us warm breezes and hot sun by the latter part of the day so I'll be putting to good use all that heat!  Since I got my Solar Dehydrator I've dried a lot of mushrooms, and corn and it works great either in the utility cabin with our wood stove or out in the sun on my clothes line. (Look way in the back on the right side and you can see some of our container gardening.) Yesterday I started the process with frozen corn (partially thawed) by putting it in the dehydrator out in the sun. By the end of the day it was beginning to dry but had a long way to go so we put it in the utility room with the wood stove going overnight and by morning it was almost done.  The fire was out but the sun was warming up the place through the windows so I let it stay in there all day and it finished the job.  I had 2 lbs of corn in each of the top four layers and then 5 cans of corn, drained and added to the next two lower layers and I

Off Grid Dehydrating Update

Greetings sisters! I'm thankful for you sisters who love the Lord and are striving in obedience.  Praise God for His mercies and patience when we fall short but by His power we get back up and keep going. Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:   But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 I just posted about my new off grid dehydrator, you can read about it here: https://titus24sisters.blogspot.com/2020/04/off-grid-dehydrator.html And today I want to share with you how it worked.... I couldn't be more pleased with it!  I was concerned how the l

Off Grid Dehydrator

Hello sisters! I pray that today is one of peace and joy in the Lord. In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:19 The other day I did an audio / video post about what's been going on and in it I said I bought a dehydrator and I was excited about getting it, well it's here! It is BIG!!!  I think it's about 4 feet tall and a great circumference, enough to dehydrate a lot at once and only cost $20.  I was thankful that it came in the morning because we were heading out to do some errands and I was able to pick up some things to dehydrate in it. I've shared with you that I used to have some awesome electric dehydrators with 9 trays each and they were humming all summer long as I was processing what the Lord blessed us with, from our gardens.  When we went off grid it didn't make sense to keep them so we sold them (we had gotten our money's worth out of them many times over.)   Last week I was questioning brother
