Saving Money #10 Focus

Greetings sisters!

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2

I use that verse to start off this letter to you because it's a great one for the topic "focus" in reference to saving money.

What is your focus?  If your mind and affections are set on things above then what you do here on the earth will greatly be impacted in a good and godly way.

We have to be careful that while living on this earth we don't get swept away with the comforts of the flesh (you can read an article here on that: https://titus24sisters.blogspot.com/2019/06/killing-comfort-and-being-set-free-from.html ) and the desires that can be stirred by the offerings of the world.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
(Romans 12:1-2)

It's easy to get swept up in decorating homes, fancy foods, landscaping, self sufficiency and all that but if we remember why we are here, to glorify God, then our focus is not on those things and instead we learn to get by with just what we need so we can focus on what's important.

In the area of saving money, we are to be wise stewards of what God has entrusted to us and if you have a husband or anyone else helping you financially, we must honor them by working hard to not spend what we don't need to.

Keeping our focus on the Lord and a simple life will eliminate a lot of uneccessary spending because it's mostly indulgences of the flesh that lead us astray.

We encounter professed believers who say they would love to have more time to focus on the things of God but when we encourage them in the areas of spending and how to change so they can be set free, (free from debt and a worldly job) they are unwilling to sacrifice their flesh to do so.  Therefore their focus is on their flesh, not the things of God.

We are to do all things heartily as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24) and that includes shopping.  So the next time you go shopping for food, clothing, household items etc....set your focus on what is eternal and then ask yourself, is what you're buying being done as unto the Lord?

Only you can answer that question but I know when I ask myself, there are times I have to reset my focus because it slipped to my flesh.

We all have a conscience, we all have convictions and what works for one person may not be for another but I can guarantee that for most people, there are many areas of improvement that could be worked on when it comes to spending money and doing it wisely.

I hope all these have helped you in two ways.
#1 Maybe you got some ideas for yourself.
#2 You can understand a bit better how we got to the place we are able to be set free in this life we have, for the Lord.

Have a joyous day sisters!

Love in Christ,
Sister Deb
