Sewing on a Button and Not Taking Anything for Granted

Greetings sisters!

We are praising God for allowing us to make it to our Wisconsin destination safely.  We must make sure we never take for granted even one day that He gives us to serve Him!

Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.    (Ephesians 2:11-13)

Let us remember that it wasn't long ago (God has no timing) that we were sinners and now through the blood of Christ we are saints if we are born again in Christ Jesus, so who are we to take anything for granted but instead be always thankful.
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. (Colossians 3:17)

Speaking of taking things for granted, we sisters do many household projects that require very little thought from us but for a man, even the smallest things could be a project to be learned.  We received a call from a brother in the Lord and during the conversation he mentioned having to sew on a button and has never done that before so I offered to make a video for him.

I tried to send it directly to him but it wouldn't work so brother Jim said I should put it here in a post so he can come check it out :-)

We live in such a self serving world that it's sometimes easy to overlook thankfulness in many areas when we are used to having things done our way.   This is called 'being selfish'.  Quit often, anger or frustrations stem from selfishness because things did not go our way. What about getting frustrated with spouses or children when there is no need to be?  The bible tells us to prefer one another...

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another (Romans 12:10)

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. (Philippians 2:3)

If we are quick to anger or be frustrated over someone then we are selfish and in sin.  This is also another form of taking things for granted because instead of being thankful we are just assuming things should go our way and get upset when they don't.

Wives, be sure that you don't take your husband for granted because today might be his last.  You may be looking at him through critical eyes when you are to look at him through your obedience to the Word of God.  What I mean by that is regardless of whether your husband is a follower of Christ, or not,  you are to be focusing on YOUR actions, because God's Word says to wives that if their husband is disobedient to the Word, they are to win him without a word (1 Peter 3).  It doesn't say to snap at him, or think bad about him, or mutter to yourself or others about him, or try to manipulate him etc.  It says to win him without a word and how that is done is through your obedience to the Word.

There are many areas that we tend to take for granted in this life: comfort of the flesh, marriages, children, shelter, food, water, clothing and many more.  For the sake of keepers at home, let's look at the chores we do.  Are we thankful for knowing how to do our every day chores and tasks or do we grumble because we have to do them?  There are others out there that would like to learn how to do those tasks and would be grateful. (Like the brother I was just talking about.)

Are we thankful for even the small things others do for us (especially spouses or children) or do we just expect it from them or take it for granted?

Do we take the hope of eternal life for granted or do we work out our salvation with fear and trembling?  (Philippians 2:12)

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.  For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
(Romans 8:5-13)

Here's a verse that I love; showing simplicity and thankfulness:

And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart
Acts 2:46

Amen!

Cultivate a spirit of thankfulness and it will go right along with being content.

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.  Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
(Philippians 4:4-13)

Have a joyous day sisters!

Love in Christ,
Sister Deb
