Blast from my Past....Bean Burger Recipe

Hello sisters!
Here is another post from the past blog I had...a recipe for simple, inexpensive bean burgers:

In our quest for simplicity and health we have decided to cut back on meat, especially ground beef.  We do enjoy a burger once in a while but most often we eat chicken, venison or fish and now are incorporating a lot more beans into our diet.  Beans are very versatile and I hope to have many more posts on them because they can be used for appetizers, main dishes, in soups and desserts.  They are another one of God's amazing gifts to mankind and learning how to cook with them is a wonderful blessing.

I've been wanting to try bean burgers for quite some time and this winter was a good time to put them in the schedule.  Wish I would have done it long time ago:-)  These are super simple and pretty delicious I might add and Jim really likes them so that's a definite write in my recipe box for sure!

If you've ever made tuna or salmon burgers, this is pretty much the same concept.  I don't use measurements when I make them but will do a guesstimate for you and it can be a basis for you going forward.

Here's the simple basis of it:

1 to 1 1/2 cup cooked beans (mash them)
1 egg
1/4 cup bread crumbs (or cracker/chip crumbs)
1/4 cup chopped onions
2 cloves of garlic chopped
Salt and pepper
(Optional cumin, parsley, garlic salt...whatever you like)

Put it all into a bowl and stir well.  Meanwhile heat a fry pan pretty hot then back it off to medium with a couple tablespoons of oil or oil/butter combination.

Some bean mixtures are drier than others so you can patty them out and put on the pan or you might have to just scoop it out and shape it like a patty after you put it in the pan.  Having a bit of moisture is good as it will be a moister burger.  Fry for 4-8 minutes before flipping to the other side and frying another 4-8.  Timing depends on how thin you made the patties and how crispy you like them.

These would be good with guacamole next time, yum.

We're so thankful for healthy food.

No, it doesn't taste like hamburger but it does have a nice thick texture and for those who are watching their health and their pocket book, these are an excellent alternative and affordable for even the tightest wallet.

Have a joyous day!

Love in Christ,
Sister Deb
