Blast From My Past....Simple Sweet Bread Recipe Only 5 Ingredients

Greetings again sisters!
Here's a simple recipe from my old homestead blog on how to make an easy sweet bread with 5 ingredients.
Toppings are additional.

Who doesn't like fresh sweet bread? It makes a delicious dessert or snack, is a great surprise in a lunch box and is a wonderful gift!  It has very few ingredients and is so simple to make that you can whip one up before bedtime when you forgot you needed something for the next day.  This recipe is perfect for a child to help with or do themselves with minimal guidance.

Soda Bread
*3 cups white flour
*3/4 teaspoon salt
*2 teaspoons baking powder
*1/3 cup sugar (could use less like 1/4 if you don't want it so sweet)
*1 can of soda-yes, soda pop, whatever flavor you like.
(We like to use Zevia or any other natural soda, however natural soda can be.)

The next ingredients are optional:

*2 tablespoons melted butter
*Sugar Cinnamon mix (just take a couple teaspoons sugar and mix in a dab of cinnamon)

1. Grease a bread pan.
2. Wisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and sugar.
3. Pour in the soda into the flour mixture and wait a minute until it's done fizzing.
4. Mix the soda into the flour mixture but do not over stir.

I look for these at our local dent and bent store and find them for a fraction of the price.

5. Pour into greased bread pan.
6. Drizzle butter over the top.
7. Sprinkle the cinnamon/sugar mix on top.
8. Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
9. Remove from pan and cool.

As you can see, this is a simple and basic recipe that you can use to start with and then make any additions you like.  Our favorite is to add chocolate chips and nuts.

You could add coconut, almond extract, cocoa (adjust the sugar if you do), berries etc whatever you like.

No, we don't advocate eating a lot of sugar or white flour BUT if you compare the ingredients of this simple bread to a quick snack purchased at your local convenience gas station, you are far better off with this for your health AND wallet.

Make a loaf of this, wrap it up and attach a gospel tract to it for a great way to share the gospel.

Enjoy.

Sister Deb
