A Virtuous Woman Pressing On
Greetings sisters in Christ!
I hope you are all doing well today and striving to be that virtuous woman!
I hope you are all doing well today and striving to be that virtuous woman!
I encourage you not to examine yourself based on your feelings but by scripture. When I look at myself through my flesh, I'm a failure but if I compare myself to the what the scriptures say...I'm victorious in many ways and striving to be in all the rest that I fall short. This is awesome because God's word tells us not to compare ourselves one to another
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
2 Corinthians 10:12-13
Striving every day is victory because we are pressing on toward the mark.
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14
Amen! No matter what the world does and what our life is like....let us press on.
This morning we walked by an elderly man who jumped up from his bench, pointed to brother Jim's scripture stick saying "Sir, sir, can I talk to you. I see your stick says obey Jesus. Can you remember me in your prayers for my eye." He pointed to his eye, which was pure white, and said something about it. (It was hard to understand him because of his southern drawl and speaking soft in a loud place.) We did catch this part though....brother Jim offered him a gospel card and asked him if he reads. The man said "No, I can't see to read." Jim was going to share the gospel with him but he turned and was talking as he walked away. We walked by him again about a half hour later and what a sight we saw! He was holding a piece of paper... reading it!
We also met a man that was talking about the bible (he had many unbiblical issues) and during his conversation he mentioned that he and his wife share the things of God with people. He pointed to where his wife and children were sitting way over on the corner of the lot, with a cardboard sign that said "God is Good." He says that people come up to her and she draws a picture for them.
It's actually a good ploy to beg for money because he doesn't work to support his family
There are a lot of liars out here and we sure hear the stories....but everyone gets the gospel, then and we go on our way, knowing that God is watching what they do. The bible says we will reap what we sow...
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:7-10
I put all that in here, about liars, because sometimes you just want to ignore them and figure that they are all the same but with different lies about why they are out there. Like yesterday we saw a beggar man that had no legs, he had metal ones from the knees down with work boots on. On each leg he had knee pads with something about Jesus on them. Brother Jim talked to him and he claimed to love Jesus, (we could see many issues with his testimony) but brother Jim gave him the gospel and talked to him about his situation. He has family and a place to go up a state north of where we are now but he doesn't like the cold so he's choosing to 'live in his truck' with his wife. The story sounds like everyone else we come across but we decided since this man clearly had a major disability that we would offer extra help and made a nice sized food bag for him. (Praise God for all the great deals I have been finding.) When we walked back to him and offered it up, he was thankful then lifted his leg and said "I think people like the things about Jesus on my legs." Jim talked to him about taking the things of God seriously and as we walked away we talked about how our Father sees all these things people do. We pray they repent, especially those who use God's name for ill gain.
As a 'striving to be' virtuous Titus 2 woman myself, I'm always trying to be prepared to not only help others but to be flexible and accommodating to my brother / husband Jim when he feels the calling to do something. If we look at ourselves as servants to others, that mindset will keep us from lifting what we want, above others and that's one of the traits of a Godly woman. Killing the flesh is a daily thing but the more you do it, over time, the less you have to kill.
If we fail one day, praise God the next day you wake up and try it again. Keep pressing forward and don't look back sisters. Read Luke 9:62 lest you not be fit for the kingdom of God.
Have a joyous evening.
Love,
Sister Deb
