Busy Doing Nothing (Idle Tattlers)

Greetings sisters in Christ!
I hope your day is going well?  Just recently brother Jim asked an elderly man how he was doing and the man said "Do you mean it?"  He then went on to talk about how people just casually ask that question but don't really mean anything behind it.  Brother Jim assured him that he asked because he does care, which led to the proclamation of the gospel from brother Jim to this elderly man.

It made me think of 1 Timothy 5 and the idle, tattling, busybody young widows who were busy doing nothing constructive.

Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
1 Timothy 5:9-15

We see this as a common issue with women today just as apostle Paul talked about then.  There's nothing new under the sun is there? Solomon called that right many years ago.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 1:9

We've had many women reach out to us and try to talk about their husband and everyone else (air their dirty laundry) speaking things they ought not, but when it comes to showing them their place in the New Testament body life (being a meek and quiet, shamefaced woman, listening to the godly men), they run off to another ear that would listen.  They have a lot of idle time on their hands and instead of physically going house to house like they did back in the biblical days, they can now go house to house from the internet via email, websites and the phone. They are then enabled, when they have an ear (or response to an email) to be busybodies and tattlers (involved in other people's affairs, gossipers and foolish). We have met many, in our years, and we were amazed at how much time they could waste each day. Based on 1 Timothy 5, Paul is giving them plenty to do by getting married (her time is focused on her husband), taking care of the house (focusing on her duties in the home) and bearing children (focusing on children). Obviously, today it could be near impossible for marriage because of the falling away as we get closer to the end times but that doesn't mean a single or widow woman can't focus on her household duties, a good and pure job, starting her own small business or volunteer work to keep herself busy.

We will give an account for every idle word we speak:

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.  For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Matthew 12:36-37

Idle, in greek, means; inactive, unemployed, lazy, useless, barren

A godly woman, regardless if she's alone with no husband or children, is fully capable of being a meek and quiet woman, totally serving the Lord without distraction and not being idle about it. We see both married women and unmarried wasting time and living in their flesh, therefore hindering their growth in the Lord because of their disobedience.

Society today makes our life all about 'us' whereas when we are in the Lord, it's all about the Lord.  If you were the last person on earth or in solitary confinement in jail, you could serve God in peace, joy and contentment and wait patiently, enduring in the faith, until He called you home....why is it that today, those who claim to be of Christ, cannot do that same thing?

There are more distractions today than there were back in Paul's day but that should NOT be an excuse!  We KNOW this so we should be even more aware and more cautious, amen!?  They may have had more believers in one area than we do today but we have the full word of God, they didn't. Think about that, if a believer was on their own back then, all they had was what they heard about the Lord Jesus and His death, burial and resurrection and maybe some of the Apostles letters but today we are totally equipped with the full word of God.  We have all we need to live a life fully dedicated to our Father with no excuses.

But that, seemingly, is not enough for most.  They follow their flesh, just like Paul talks about the young widows, and they end up turning away from their first love even if they don't realize it.

God has us all where He wants us.  If He wants us to have a body of believers around us, it will happen.  If He wants us alone, it will happen.  Let us not be pushing against what He has in our life and be content where, each day, serving Him and not our flesh.

The world thinks it's funny to joke about 'doing nothing', let that not be named among us.  If another believer asks you "What's going on with you today?"  It should never be "Oh nothing much."  Aren't the things of God "something much?"  Even if you don't have a lot going on physically, shouldn't there always be something going on spiritually?

There are many ways a woman can be idle and it's not just going from 'house to house' (even through the internet on email or phone), they can be idle by sitting on youtube watching cooking, gardening or documentary videos all day, reading nonsense novels, listening to nonsense radio programs or filling their head with unbiblical  music.

If you are guilty of being idle, please repent and fill yourself up with the Word of God, fill your life with what's good and godly that would would

give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
vs 14 of 1 Timothy 5

Have a joyous and blessed day!
