Eat This Not That

Greetings to my keeper at home sisters in Christ!

Today I want to venture into the territory of foods and how it can take you into a whirlwind of confusion and despair, if you are not careful. Many of you will nod your heads and smile, knowing what I'm talking about but for those of you who are new to the world of the healthy food trap, let me enlighten you. The reason I want to do this is because many people question how, as Christians, we are to eat while living in this fallen world.

Let me show you what you will find on the internet...

* Eggs- Don't eat them because they contain cholesterol.  If you do eat them then toss out the yolk because that's where it is.  Eat lots of eggs because you need tons of protein, in fact eat them raw, they are better for you. Don't eat raw eggs, they'll kill you.  Don't eat eggs from chickens that aren't free range.  Only organic fed chickens have good eggs.

* Milk - Don't drink it because it has hormones and antibiotics in it. Don't drink it because milk is only for babies. Milk is good for the bones. Pasteurized milk is bad for you.  Raw milk will kill you.  Raw milk is the only milk to drink. Drink 3 servings each day. Goat milk is better for digestion than cows milk.

* Bread - Don't eat it because it'll make you fat.  You shouldn't eat carbs.  Make sure you get enough carbs. White flour bread will kill you.  Whole grain breads are good for you.  Whole grains will make you fat.  Sprout your grains first.  Sprouting grains first won't do any good. Eat a lot of bread, it's good fiber.  Use only fresh ground grains, all others are rancid.

* Cheese - Don't eat it, it will kill you.  Eat only low fat mozzarella.  Eat hard, aged cheese because it has more health benefits.  Cheese has cholesterol and will clog your heart and kill you.  Cheese is good for protein.  Only eat cheese from cows who have been organically fed.  Goat milk cheese is best.  Eat soft cheeses, not hard aged cheese.

* Meat, poultry and fish - Don't eat meat, eat fish instead.  Don't eat too much fish because it has mercury.  Eat chicken instead of beef because you can digest it better.  Eat beef because it has more iron. Don't eat beef because it has antibiotics in it. Only buy organically raised meats and fish or raise your own.  Don't eat meat of any sort, just eat plants and beans.

* Fresh vegetables and fruits - Only eat organic because conventional grown have pesticides.  Organic foods have pesticides.  Eat only off the 'clean 15' and avoid the 'dirty dozen'.  Peel all fruits and vegetables.  Eat them all raw.  Eat them all cooked.  Corn and potatoes have no nutritional value. Only eat vegetables that have been fermented.  Fermented foods can have yeast which causes yeast overgrowth. Only eat homegrown from heirloom seeds, not hybrids. Don't eat fruits with your food, eat fruit on an empty stomach.

* Canned fruits and vegetables - Don't eat them because they lost all their nutritional value.  They are good for you because they have nutritional value.  Drain the canning liquid and rinse them well before cooking in fresh water.  BPA will kill you.  The salt will give you a heart attack. Canned tomatoes are better for you than fresh.

* Frozen fruits and vegetables - Don't eat them because they are not as nutritional as fresh.  Frozen has more nutritional value than the average fresh that has been sitting in the cooler.  Only eat organic.  Organic is not all organic and still has pesticides.

* Pasta - Don't eat it because it's all carbs and carbs are bad for you.  Carbs are good for energy.  Pasta spikes blood sugar.  Eat whole grain pasta it stabilizes blood sugar.  Don't eat whole grain pasta because the wheat has been hybridized and it's no longer healthy like it used to be.  Eat vegetable pasta.  Don't eat vegetable pasta because it's made from the powders and starches.

* Rice - Don't eat white rice.  Eat only brown or long grain rice.  Rice has arsenic, don't eat it unless you soak it and drain it several times.  Rice has too many carbs.

* Nuts - Peanuts are bad for you. Walnuts and pecans are good for you but cashews are only okay.  Don't eat heat treated nuts, only eat raw.  Soak nuts overnight and remove skins before eating. Nuts get mold from the way they are stored.  Peanut butter is bad, eat cashew or almond butter.  Only eat fresh ground nut butter from organically grown sources that have not heat treated it, then soak them overnight, drain them, dehydrate them on low heat and grind them yourself.

* Beans and legumes - Don't eat them because you can't digest them.  Soak them for several days, draining the water 3 times a day, then slow cook them for several hours. Eat a lot of them because they are good for fiber.  Don't eat to many because too much fiber is bad for you.  Only eat organic.

* Coffee - Don't drink it, it's bad for you.  Drink it, it has antioxidants.  Grind your own beans otherwise it goes rancid.  Only use light roast, too much roast turns it rancid.  Use dark roast, it increases the antioxidants.  Caffeine is bad for you.  Caffeine is good for you. Heat the coffee to a certain degree. Only drink cold brew.  Don't drink decaf.  Drink regular.

* Butter and Oils (fats)- Don't eat any of them, they will clog your heart and kill you.  Eat butter it's healthier than oil.  Don't eat butter because it increases your cholesterol.  Only eat butter from cows raised on grass in the spring. Eat coconut, olive and avacado oils, they are good for you.  Olive oil is not longer good for you.  Don't heat the butter or oils or you kill all the good nutrients.

* SaltSalt will spike your blood pressure and give you a heart attack. You need a lot of salt.

* Sugars / sweeteners - Don't eat any sort of sugars / sweeteners.  Use cane sugar, sucanat or turbinado.  Only use maple syrup, honey and molasses.  White sugar will kill you.  Only eat grade B maple syrup because it has more nutrients than grade A.  Don't eat brown sugar it's only white sugar with molasses.

* Water - Don't drink well water because it's got hard minerals in it. Hard water is the best and has most calcium.  Don't drink city water or you will die.  City water is okay, it's been treated.  Buy bottled spring water.  Don't buy bottled spring water because the plastic leached into the water.  Filter all your water.  Drink only reverse osmosis water.  Drink 8 glasses each day.  Too much water can dilute the stomach and slow down digestion.

* Meals - Eat 3 each day.  Don't eat 3 meals each day, eat several small meals throughout the day.  Don't eat after 9 pm.  Eat a big breakfast.  Don't eat much for breakfast and eat your biggest meal at lunch time. Fast for 16 hours each day and load your calories into 8 hours.

Cooking methods - Don't cook over an open fire because it forms carcinogens.  Use only cast iron.  Cooking in aluminum pans will kill you.  Don't use a microwave because it kills the cellular make-up of the food.  Pressure cookers destroy foods. Pressure cookers are good for canning foods long term.  Canning foods kills the nutrients.  Nutrients in food last a long time after being canned. Only air fry foods.  Air frying is unhealthy because of the high heat.  Slow cook your foods, especially beans.  Slow cooking destroys nutrients.

I think we've got enough examples :-)

I got news for you...I can't think of any food product that doesn't have some sort of tainting from man.  Here's an example:

To grow your own foods without one spec of intervention from man you would need to have a piece of land that has not had any chemicals or rain on it. (Rain can contain chemicals you know.)  Then you need to have heirloom seeds.  (Are you sure they are heirloom... who actually documented the seeds from the beginning of time?)  You need to water the garden from a well that has not had the opportunity to be tainted. (Can you guarantee it?)  You would need to protect the garden from any exhaust from machines (cars, planes, lawn mowers etc) and wind that can carry specks of chemicals on it.  You have to net it so no bugs can crawl on the leaves because they can carry pesticides on them to your garden.  You see where this is going?

Being chemical free would be the best option if possible but in this fallen world, even if you were able to pull off a 'pure' garden, you have a lot more to deal with such as:

Your car on a hot day is emitting chemicals.  Your varnished, hardwood floors, painted walls and linoleum all emit chemicals The synthetic materials in your clothing are from petroleum products. The air in towns is filled with exhaust fumes.  Grocery store air is recirculated.  Shampoo, dish soap, toothpaste, lotions and the like are all filled with chemicals.  Many foods have chemicals even if they are not listed on them.  For example, when have you seen all the pesticides listed on fresh, frozen or canned fruits and vegetables? What about on the raisins, dates and figs? Pasta and rice? Even 'organic' has different levels of being organic and have chemicals.

While we cannot escape this chemical world, we can make the best choices possible without becoming a fanatic and using all our time and money doing so.

We also CANNOT LIVE IN FEAR.

I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7

So what is the best route to take in trying to take care of our temple? I'll share what we have chosen to do and why.

One of the first things I did was make some changes in our personal hygiene products.  Women use A LOT MORE than necessary, so I eliminated what was not absolutely needed.
Toss out all those fancy lotions, shampoos, conditioners, smelly sprays, expensive cleaning solutions etc.  (Examples: I use a 'more' natural dish soap for shampoo, body, hand washing and general cleaning.  Apple cider vinegar for hair rinse. A simple homemade air freshener is a spray bottle of water with some essential oils. I've made simple tooth powder etc.)

What about foods?

Make the best choices you can using wisdom with your resources and trust in God to maintain you through it.

We find it unwise and selfish to waste the resources (that God has blessed us with) on ourselves and not trust that God will sustain us through this sinful, chemical world.  Brother Jim and I have been very frugal in our spending and therefore have set ourselves up to be set free to do the work of the Lord.  We refuse to spend all our time and money trying to avoid chemicals, worrying about getting all the macro nutrients in every bite, eating from the super food fad etc.

We eat food from grocery stores and I pick my battles while I'm shopping.  Yes, I'm sure there are pesticides on my fresh fruits and veggies as well as the dried fruits brother Jim enjoys.  We eat a lot of potatoes and apples even though they are high on the dirty dozen list. There could be some chemicals on our pasta or rice.  The butter I buy probably has some hormones in it even if the label says it doesn't.  I buy marked down, inexpensive white bread with minimal ingredients from the bakery. I have no problem using refined coconut oil.  I buy fresh, canned and frozen veggies, whatever is a good deal. We like brown eggs instead of white.  We get 'natural' protein bars from the dent and bent even if they might have some additives in them.  We prefer cheddar cheese over mozzarella. We enjoy dark chocolate that might not have as much cocoa in it as it should.  We eat a lot of peanut butter.  Sometimes our meal consists of corn chips and salsa or kipper snacks and saltine crackers.  If I find a decent canned soup marked down, we will enjoy it. We don't drink a lot of coffee but we stock up on whatever is discounted and appreciate it. I use cane sugar and molasses. We rarely eat fast food but if we do, we make the best choice and are thankful. We are often up late and enjoy a snack before bed.  We eat a light breakfast....

You can see we eat a generally healthy diet without having to be 'organic' or chemical free.  We make the best choice we can within reason.  If the option of higher quality is available without being unreasonable, we will choose it.  I refuse to spend $4 for a loaf of bread though.

We have a lot more time and resources to do the work of the Lord and our health is not suffering one bit.  In fact, although I struggle through several issues, I have a better sense of well being than I ever did when we were on the 'chemical free, perfect diet kick.  I give that all to the Lord because once I realized I'm not in control, He is, I was able to focus on Him instead of food, chemicals and ultimately myself.

Which is interesting to note....most professed Christians worry more about their 'temple' and keeping it healthy than they do their spiritual well being in the truth of God's Word.

Everyone of us will give an account to the Lord on what we have done with our life so let's be sure if we are claiming to be of Christ, we are focused on Him, not ourselves and what we eat.  Remember this...

Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
1 Corinthians 6:13

...and this...

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment
Hebrews 9:27

We will die when it's our time and no sooner.  I know some of you are saying, "Well, I have some issues I need to deal with and I'm allergic to this and that."  You need to make your own decisions but I also want to encourage those of you who have undetermined illnesses and no matter what you try, you don't get better...that was me.

(Feel free to read an article I posted a while back called Deceitful Dainties and the walk I went through in this https://titus24sisters.blogspot.com/2020/01/deceitful-dainties.html)

Have a joyous evening.
