Teach the Young Women to be Sober
Greetings sisters in Christ!
The hours in this day are a gift from God, how are you spending them? Ephesians 5 tells us to redeem the time and it was a very encouraging passage to me as a new believer in Christ. It helped keep me focused on the the Lord and protected me from getting swept away on the internet while learning about being a keeper at home. There's too much idle time being spent looking at recipes, crafting and homemaking than there is obedience in some believers lives, I hope that's not you.
One big thing we notice is that there is a lack of wisdom in the elderly because most of them act as foolish as the youth. Oftentimes the only differences between youth and the elderly are gray hair and wrinkles!
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
Proverbs 16:31
(Hoary means: age, gray hair, old age) What God has set in motion, such as gray hair, is not esteemed as glory because it is not found in the way of righteousness in this wicked world.
God's Word teaches the 'aged' women to teach the younger women in Titus 2. An older godly woman in both flesh and biblical knowledge will be well rounded in many areas of life and should be able to impart what she has learned, to younger sisters coming in after her.
The word sober in the greek means:
to be of sound mind
sane
exercise self control
curb one's passions
We older women are to teach the younger women to be sober, to control themselves, to curb their passions, to be sane and of a sound mind.
As you notice, young people have many passions and desires that border on being the opposite of sober and controlled. Many do not have the longevity on this earth to have experienced troubles and trials that shape and mature us older generation so when an older, godly woman does not participate in conversations, activities or thoughts that are not sober, it's a stark contrast to the younger generation and an example of what they should forsake and put behind them. How many of you have been involved in a conversation that may have started out good but slowly turned into something that should be forsaken and the awkward silence when you didn't smile or laugh. Or possibly you were on the other side of that, talking about something you shouldn't and the other person didn't join in and you felt the conviction?
We are to be active in the faith...
1 Peter 4:7
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
It doesn't say 'watch youtube' or 'watch videos on Facebook', we are to be about the things of God, learning and training ourselves so that we can teach and train the godly women who come after us.
Strive to be that godly example sisters!
Love in Christ,
Sister Deb

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.
5He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.
