A Child is an Open Book
Greetings sisters in Christ!
We are thanking the Lord for safe travels today! When we got to our destination we were blessed with this sight:
It only lasted a few minutes and then was gone. (The colors don't come through well on this picture.) There were some people standing in the parking lot when brother Jim and I took a picture and they were nonchalant about it, like it was no big deal and kept about their conversation. But when you are a true child of God, His works are wonderful and you stop to give him the glory in it all.
Amen, how glorious is He!
It makes me think of the 'story books' for children and one of the most popular is Noah's Ark. I recall that as a child and reading it to my own children (before I was in Christ) and I always wondered about what surrounded that 'story'. Well after I was born born again I saw that it's not a 'story' but a true account and what most of the books don't tell you is that it was all because of sin and that everyone perished. Only Noah and his family (8 total) were spared from the wrath of God and all of humanity were killed by God. The books that hint around about it don't say it like it is, God killed everyone for their unrepentant sin. What do the books focus on? How Noah built the ark and how God sent the animals into the ark and saved Noah. (They even have pretty pictures of the rainbow over a fancy ark and cute animals....)
Pretty one sided isn't it?
I'm warning you to test your children's books...
It's a touchy subject because everyone needs to use their own discernment but what we have seen in our Christian walk over the past many years is that most people are not discerning what they allow their children to read. The old saying that a child is an open book has some credibility to it because they are empty of knowledge and only know what they are taught. If parents allow their child to fill themselves up on unbiblical world views, how will they learn how to discern truth from error?
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
If we train children up in the false ways of the world, it's going to be hard for them to depart from that mindset.
I know very well how hard it is to find good, pure and true books for our grandchildren so I see the battle you face with children in the home. I'll focus on the word true here because that will eliminate most of the books we've come across. True, as in no evolution, animals don't talk, cows don't fly, bears don't build houses....you see where I'm going? Most of what 'looks' like it's good and pure (according to our mind) is actually a lie. If we are not to practice lies then we cannot have books that portray a lie, correct?
We are to examine and test all things against the Word of God and if we let one things slide, you cannot stop the avalanche. For example: If you allow a book that is not true (that means it's a lie) such as a bear that builds houses and talks to people. That will allow a child to have a distorted reality about the difference between humans and animals. Progress it further as they age and they will then be wondering if there is such things a Mother Nature and if animals have souls like humans then they contribute to society and therefore we should treat them like humans. Then as they get older they are open to the fact that maybe the earth and everything in it all share a common energy and there you go...full blown new age occultism which is at enmity against God. It is a spiritual religion actively working against God and His truth.
I'm not saying that all children end up that way because many could become part of the unbiblical evangelical religion that is at enmity against God as well in their false gospel, easy believism and the many ways they teach opposite to God's Word. Those organizations are also actively working against God and His truth.
If you test everything against God's Word, it will eliminate most of your options and your child won't have a lot of reading material except the bible (what better book to read?) and learning books that are facts. A child reading a book about black bears, what they eat, how big they get, where they live etc is a good thing. There are learning books that are true and we encourage avoiding fiction. Look up the word, fiction means false, not true, not based on facts etc. It's the opposite of true.
Children should be filled up on truth and they will then grow to learn how to avoid what is a lie.
Beware of children's bibles as they often skip over the harsh truth of God's word (just as I was sharing about the Noah's ark books) and only focus on the love aspect. Read Romans 11:22
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
I hope this encourages you to stand strong in this area and eliminate a lot of confusion in the life of a young child. Fill them with the truth and teach them to avoid what is a lie.
Much love to you all,
Sister Deb

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
