The Essentials

Good afternoon sisters!
We stopped at a discount grocery and I found these essential oils for $1 each.

For those of you who use essential oils, you know that's a good deal. (I don't get wrapped up in brands, potency, process etc, I'm just thankful for what I find.)  Anyway, I use a lot of tea tree oil for killing germs and the lemon oil is great for an air freshener.  I used to use a ton of different oils for various things but for simplicity sake in our life, I have refined it down to just a few and we get along just fine.

I wanted to share this because every time I hear the word 'essential' I think of the 'professed' believers who think there are essentials and non essentials in God's Word.  Back when I was a babe in Christ seeking truth, I read an article that said just that and my first question was 'What's not essential in God's Word?' I had a belief like a child and every word I read, I believed was in there for a reason, lest our God not be smart enough to say that it was cultural or something silly like that.  Just like the word 'modest' in 1 Timothy 2.  I knew immediately that our Father would not allow immodest women determine what 'modest' was and therefore sought the deeper meaning in the greek.  Since then I hate using the word modest when referring to godly clothing and instead us 'biblical' because the two are totally different in comparison of the culture to God's Word.

It is essential that we live by every word of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4) and not follow what man says because that's where the confusion comes in with all the different theological mindsets based on false teaching.  I'm thankful that when I started out in God's Word, as a babe in Christ, that I built my foundation on His Word alone.  I wasn't reading any other teachings and once I had a right foundation, I made the mistake of reading so called 'Christian' authors and then learned about all those false ideas.  Praise God I was discerning enough, even at a young age in the Lord, to see through the false teachings and that's all because my foundation was built on the Word of God, not man.

But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Luke 6:48

It's essential that we continue standing on the Word of God and don't deviate from the gospel, the foundation, lest we get swept away.  Sometimes women wonder what they should be 'doing' in for the work of the Lord.  We all have different callings and not everyone gets to do what they think they want to do and some have to do what they might not like to, but we are all called where we are because God called us there.  Some of you are called to be a mother, what a precious calling that is even though it can be very tough at times.  Some are called to be the wife of an unbeliever, that is a rough spot but how glorious that God has you shine that light to a lost soul, day after day.  Some are called to be single and show the power of God through a godly woman standing strong in this world.  Some are called to be helpers to husbands with ministries and go where he is called.  Right there is enough to 'do' for the Lord on a daily basis.  Now, some of you might have a bit more time to think about what else there is to 'do' like helping out in homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, elderly, abortion etc.  I'll caution you though, it may be very hard for a true Christian to become involved in some of those based on how they are run, what works are to be done etc.  This post isn't here to say what works you can do, you need to carefully evaluate each option yourself, my point is that we must never stray far from the essential....the gospel. (You will find a link at the bottom.)

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
Acts 3:19

It's good to do works in the name of the Lord BUT there must be great caution NOT to become moralizers to the world and always keep our actions based on the transforming truth of the gospel.  There are ministries that go about helping homeless people get off the street and get back into society and while that might be a good thing, these ministries hand out pamphlets to help moralize them instead of transform them with the gospel. We have personally run into street preachers who preach against abortion, which is a noteworthy activity, but the life saving gospel is what will transform the people. Some people help the elderly in nursing homes yet they are dying and going to hell without the gospel.  If you think deeply about it, there would be less work in such areas if people were sharing the gospel because the secular world would kick out the Christian from participating.  But instead, professed believers are involved in the secular activities and compromising on the gospel.  I want to caution you sisters that are helping out in the secular or denominational organizations, to carefully evaluate it against God's Word, whether it is something you should be doing.  The gospel is essential and if we have to lay that down to do whatever it is we're doing, we're doing something wrong.

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Matthew 26:28

The non essentials of God's word are non existant, it's ALL essential to the life of a true believing Christian woman's life.

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4

Let us all strive to be of one mind in the Word of God.

That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:6
