No Knead White Boule Bread
Greetings sisters in Christ!
I pray you are all diligent in your keeper at home duties :-)
Today I bring you an easy bread recipe that I found on my old homestead blog. I hope you enjoy it.
This bread is super simple to make and tastes excellent. It slices great, you can rip hunks off it, it doesn't fall apart and everyone we serve it to is astonished at how simple and tasty it is, not to mention economical!
You will need 4 ingredients:
3 cups White Flour
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Yeast
1 1/2 cup Water (warm)
That's it! We try to purchase unbromated/unbleached flour when possible but don't fret if you can't find it, you're still doing yourself a favor by making your own either way as compared to buying from the store.
Before we start you will need to have a pan. Cast Iron is best, here's an example of what I use....
Here's what you do....
* Put the flour in a bowl then mix in salt and yeast.
* Add water and stir until everything is mixed well. If it's too sloppy add a bit more flour. If it's too dry add a bit more water. There is no exact science to it, as you do it a few times you will see the end product and what produces a bread that you like. The consistency should be sticky and relatively easy to stir and sort of sticking to the bowl as you stir it but not so sloppy wet that it sloshes. It's not your typical bread dough, it's a super wet one.
* Now you need another bowl that is roughly the same size as the pan you will be cooking it in. Grease / oil it very well before you put in the dough.
* Cover it with a plastic wrap or something and let it rise very high. When our woodstove is going it doesn't take long like 2-4 hours or if it's summer I set it out in the sun and let God warm it up.
* When the dough has risen preheat the oven to 450 or so (HOT) and put the pan (with lid) in the oven while it heats.
(No need to oil the pan, the high heat keeps it from sticking.) You want to make sure the pot is just as hot as the oven. I like to preheat mine at about 15 minutes.
* When the pot and oven are hot, remove the pot and carefully turn the bread dough into the pot without deflating it much. Quickly put the lid on and get it back into the oven.
* Bake for 30-35 minutes. Remove bread from the pan and cool before slicing. (Well, try to wait until it's cool anyway :-) It does continue to cook as it cools so it really is best to wait.
I dug through my old homestead pictures and found the wheat version but not a picture of the white. Below is an example of what the white recipe looks like (found on the internet).
To be honest, we didn't care for wheat as much as the white version but that's just us. There you have it, simple wholesome bread that anyone can make.
Disclaimer: Don't get mad at me if you make this and can't stop eating it:-)
I leave you with a beautiful picture of God's creation:
Love in Christ,
