Sometimes the Little Things Are Bigger Than They Seem

Greetings Christian Sisters!
Let us rejoice!

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Psalm 100

Just reading that passage makes you want to sing and rejoice doesn't it?  The Psalms are so great for that, lifting us up when we are down, comforting us when we can't seem to get back up and sometimes rebuking us when we should have been getting back up but didn't work hard enough at it.

I want to share about how something really small made a big difference and correlate it to small works being bigger than they appear.  The other day we had to go to the store and get a few mechanical items and while checking out I picked up this little box to hand to the woman and it was HEAVY for such a small item.  I looked at it and brother Jim said it was a jack for the van.  (He has a great big heavy jack that took up too much room and he wanted something smaller.)  I thought about how that little tiny box is holding something that would pick up our great big van.  (It weighs 9,000 lbs!)  I told brother Jim that I wanted to see it in action because in my mind you need something bigger to do the job.

It picked the van up enough to spin the tire so it could be removed. I kept marveling at the dynamics of this little thing picking up a great big thing and it made me ponder the acts of believers.  Sometimes we think little tiny things really won't matter to someone and we want to do 'great works' instead.  Oftentimes 'great works' are rare come but there are ample opportunities for small things to be done regularly which would then amount to great works over time. See where I'm going with this?

We often tell new brothers or sisters that contact us that they are a great encouragement to us and I'm sure they're thinking 'How can I be of encouragement to you?'  Just knowing others are striving is encouragement.  Receiving an email is encouraging.  Seeing other saints living their life in a godly manner is encouraging.  Knowing that they have not turned away is encouraging.  Reading a post written by them, because they love the brethren, is encouraging.  Knowing that others care and pray for you is encouraging.  Those may seem small but add up to big.

How about being a witness for Christ?  Most women want to tell the world the truth but it has to be done within the realm of a godly woman and what God has ordained in his authority line.  Women can certainly share the gospel but not in the way men can such as we see the prophets doing in the Old Testament or the Apostles in the New Testament.  Do you realize how big of a testimony your obedience to God's word is to the world?  (Them seeing you obediently covering and dressing yourself to the glory of God. )  Being kind and loving is big to this world of scared and distanced people. It's a grand work to hand someone a gospel card and encourage them to go deep into God's word.

Being faithful in the little, the scriptures teach us that.

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Luke 16:10

Godly women are limited in what they can post theologically without teaching, and sometimes we think that what we offer is of little value. Sometimes I feel that when I post recipes or something (when my flesh wants to post theological things that we encounter in our life), I feel like my contribution to the sisters is small but then I remind myself of the command in Titus 2.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;  That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,  To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:3-5

We godly women, are commanded to teach these things to other sisters regardless of what value 'we think' they hold. It's clear in the scriptures that this IS valued teaching and encouragement to others but in our (sinful)  minds sometimes we can think otherwise.  I've learned over the years that all these 'seemingly little' things are truly great indeed!

I hope this encourages you and resets your mindset like it's done for me.

Have a joyous day and praise God as He has entrusted us with His precious truth to share with others in many different ways.

Love in Christ,
Sister Deb
