The Clothing Hill Many Die On

Good afternoon sisters.
I pray your day is going well and that you are focused on our Savior and not the troubles at hand.  Don't let satan steal that peace and joy that is granted to us if we surrender ourselves to follow Christ.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
James 4:10

You saw the title of this post.  Brother Jim suggested I write it because it's a big topic and many die on it, even men.  Not too long ago brother Jim was talking to a man who said he was seeking truth, left man made religion and wanted to follow Christ in all ways.  Throughout a very long conversation this man agreed with the scriptures brother Jim was showing him.  There was much agreement on all that God's word says until it got to clothing of which he did not agree with what God's word says and went on his way. Turns out he works for a company that makes extremely unbiblical clothing for both men and women.

We've noticed over the years that many (most) people who contact us have a 'hill' they die on.  Meaning there is a topic that they would rather lose their life and eternal soul to rather than overcome that hill and find life on the other side.

Let me be clear here as I have many times in the past.

WORKS DO NOT SAVE YOU!

....BUT.....

OBEDIENCE is the FRUIT that God is working in you.

WITHOUT OBEDIENCE THERE IS NO SALVATION.

Call it what you like but without works you don't have a saving faith and therefore will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Go read James 2 about works and faith then come back here and ponder this verse...

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
James 2:24

I grow weary of hearing people who claim they will die for Christ yet they run off when it comes to wearing a piece of cloth.  They have become their own god, which is what satan did, didn't he?  They exalt themselves and their body more than the glory of God who made that body. If we truly are of Christ we have been bought with a price amen?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1 Corinthians 6:20

How can we glorify God in our body if we are clothing it like a harlot?  Or even if a person doesn't think they are clothing it like a harlot, how can we glorify God by clothing it in whatever we want as opposed to how God wants us to?  Read the Old Testament where God had specifics on how the temple was to be built.  What makes it any different today with our body being the temple?

Clothing is tied back to Genesis 3 when God killed an animal (archetype of shed blood of Christ) to 'cover' Adam and Eve. Clothing IS important. God DOES look upon the outside, contrary to the lies of man made religion and those who love themselves more than God, will teach you. Many people try to use this verse to justify disobedience in this area.

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7

It talks about the countenance or the height of his stature, not his clothing.  Read this:

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Isaiah 53:2

Jesus had no form nor comeliness and there's no beauty that we should desire him.  Man looks at the 'looks' of a person such as their face, height, build etc.  People want a big, robust man as a leader but look at the plain, unimpressive people that God has picked to do His work throughout the ages.  God looking on the inside has nothing to do with what they are wearing because they were biblically dressed!

Here are many articles on clothing for Christian women to help those of you who don't know about these things.

We also have a lot on our discernment blog that include clothing for men if your husband or spiritual authority is interested. This link includes many articles for both men and women.

Yes, I know.  There may be new people in the faith who have never heard of such a thing as dressing biblical.  That's exactly why brother Jim took his time to go through all the scriptures for that new believing man and spent extra time on the one subject he pushed back on....clothing.  Christians are called to be long suffering and patient, NOT for sin, but in going over scriptures, helping someone understand etc.  Most people say long suffering is to allow people to remain in their sin until they obey but that's a lie.  Long suffering is taking your time to go over scriptures, answer questions and if need by going back over them again and again and again etc. until the person understands and obeys.   If they choose to go against scripture and not obey, they are not allowed in the body lest they bring sin and pull other people from the truth.

I'm amazed at the people who profess to be born again (transfomred) would rather die and go to hell in their disobedience than put on a piece of cloth as the scriptures say. It reminds me of this:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty
1 Corinthians 1:27

Cloth (biblical clothing) is a foolish thing to many who are perishing.  We CONSTANTLY get snarky questions like
'So you're saying I'll go to hell if I don't put on a dress or cover my head?' (Or men will say the same in reference to male clothing.)

The biblical answer is this....

Unrepentant sin or disobedience to God's word will damn you. Go wrestle with that.

Yes, we will all look different but we should all look biblical.  Long, loose, unadorned robe type garments with full headcoverings.  (Brother Jim takes care of helping the men and they too should dress in long, loose, unadorned tunic like clothing.)   Those who choose to disobey these commands are in sin and if they won't repent after long suffering and patience in the scriptures, they will need to take time to either study for themselves and wrestle with their flesh or go on their way.

Let's level the field here with a scenario. Brother Jim always asks men what they would do if they heard him use a swear word while talking with them.  Say he just lets out here and there in the conversation and won't repent of it.  EVERY SINGLE MAN said they would would not want to talk to him anymore.

It's just ONE WORD.  A LITTLE WORD disqualifies us from a godly witness so why do people say clothing doesn't matter when God Himself, clothed mankind?

Pride.

A person who is so concerned about their outsides has pride.  Read Proverbs 6, God hates a proud look.

Changing your clothes on the outside won't change your insides.  The gospel, good news, is what transforms people on the inside and then the outside obeys God's word.  (See the gospel link at the bottom of the post.)  If you truly are born again and are a new creation in Christ, you strive to OBEY ALL that God's word commands, even when it talks about something as silly as cloth.

As these times get tough we are praying that people will hearken to the word of God and repent but we are bracing ourselves because the bible talks about a falling away and how times will be dark.  If you are truly born again, examine yourself as 2 Corinthians 13:5 say, lest you be found a reprobate.

Honestly, this is one of the commands that a person can quickly obey just like tossing out the tv, worldly books, video games, cleaning the sin out of your house etc.  People can do that in a matter of a few days and then be focusing on the harder issues, the matters of flesh that rise up unexpectedly (anger, pride, covetousness etc.)

I hope this helps show you the severity and goodness of God's Word.  Severity in the ramifications of disobedience and the goodness when we obey.

Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
Romans 11:22

I pray you are all fully obedient lest the day come like the 5 virgins who were not ready and were left outside the door...

And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Matthew 25:10-12

Many will come to Him and He will turn them away...

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:22-23

Yes, that would be people who do many things in His name but refuse to obey all.  They are workers of iniquity...

Let that not be us sisters.  I pray you are obedient in all ways lest you be outside the gates.

Stand strong in His Word,
Love in Christ,
Sister Deb
