You Look Depressing

Good evening greetings to my striving sister saints who are not afraid of man nor what he may think!

Feel free to read the screen capture below from a pastors wife and let's dissect it biblically.

This was forwarded to me from a sister in Christ and I thought it would be a good teaching lesson for us all.  This isn't the first time we've heard references to looking depressing, oppressed or the like and if you are well grounded in the word you will know that we are to adorn ourselves from the inside, not the outside, contrary to what the false teaching women (like the one above) will tell you. Moving on...let's examine what God's word says in light of all this.

Our heavenly Father knows what's best in the way we cover our temple of the Holy Spirit as He owns us and we were bought with a price, the blood of Christ. (Clothing is a sin covering, read about that HERE, not something we should use to adorn ourselves.)  1 Timothy 2 is perfectly clear on all that.

1 Timothy 2:9-10
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Read the greek words for 'modest apparel' it translates into 'neat and orderly long robes / dresses'.  Jesus says (through Paul) that we godly women are NOT to adorn ourselves externally but from the internal as we see in 1 Peter 3:3-6

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

So God, the creator of the universe decides how his daughters should dress and rebellious women call it depressing.  After God shed blood to cover Adam and Eve with tunics / robes, that He didn't decorate them with flowers or patterns. It's clear He wants His adornment of his daughter to be the fruits of a transformed life with the power of His Holy Spirit, from the inside.

Godly women are to cover their heads as we see in 1 Corinthians 11.

vs 1-5
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

So a godly woman who covers the temple of the Holy Spirit in the manner that God commanded and also wears her veil is depressing.  So it's depressing to not act like a feminist and expose your  (shame) hair in having an uncovered head?  This is almost depressing to me that someone who claims to be a godly woman, a preachers wife for many years, thinks that following God's word is depressing.  Let's cast down such things and avoid people who exalt themselves against God and take it all captive to the Word.

2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Let's start with...

 John 3:30
He must increase, but I must decrease.

I came from the world and I know what it's like to increase my looks through vanity and pride,  lifting myself to a lofty position, making myself into my own god, therefore decreasing Him. This is wickedness and sin.

Psalm 10:3-4
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the Lord abhorreth. The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God : God is not in all his thoughts.

Those who are seeking after the pride of life and the decoration of that which is to be temple of the Holy Spirit are seeking after the flesh, not the things of God.  How wicked.

Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

As we read above in 1 Peter 3, our adornment is to come from within which brings honor and glory to God...

Revelation 7:12
Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

...and not to ourselves who are but dust to our Creator.

Job 34:15
All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

The worldly woman seeks what the world esteems (pride in looks, successful high paying careers, power and control over men, 'freedom' from children, independence) but what does God think of such things?

Luke 16:15
And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

The heart of a true woman of God seeks to humble herself

James 4:6-10
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Matthew 5 fits in good right here.

Matthew 5:1-16
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. [6] Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Good works come through a transformed heart and  none of these works matter unless a person is born from above, see the gospel HERE.

I fear for the women who think that godly women look depressing because they are living in the flesh, not in the Spirit and need to examine themselves.

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

They are not looking for the fruit of the Spirit as being the godly woman's adornment, instead they are looking at the temporal, the physical, which is what the world does.

When I see a godly woman dressed in the manner our Father told her to, I rejoice and see a meek and quiet woman, joyous in the Lord, loving her neighbor and filling the commands of her Savior.  How much more uplifting can you get than that?!

Proverbs 31:30
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Sisters, don't let rebellious people get you down and instead, rejoice in the fact that you get to serve an awesome creator.  Ignore such remarks and let it roll off...consider the source. I'll end it with this....

Let's march on my sister soldier saints and press through this world, looking to that which is ahead!

Romans 15:13
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

And for your information, the only time you would look depressing to me is if you turned from the faith so let's continue to encourage one another on so we don't have that befall us.

May you have peace, blessings and joy in your day.
