Sweet Smelling Savour Instead of Stench

 Good day sister saints!

Praise the Lord for such a beautiful day, breezy and not too warm yet.  The birds are singing, the critters are all over the forest and I'm enjoying it while I type this to you.

Brother Jim offered this idea as a post when I was appreciating and giving God glory for the beautiful flowers that are blooming all over.  He referenced the sweet smelling savour that God's Word talks about so I thought I'd list a few of the MANY verses that show us what was (in the Old Testament) and what is (in the New Testament) for us today as well as examples of what would be a sweet smelling savour to God, in our lives lived for Him as godly women.

We see that the sacrifices unto the Lord, when done with right hearts for Him were well received:

And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord ; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.  And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. (Genesis 8:20-21)

And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the Lord : it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the Lord. (Exodus 29:18)

And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord. (Leviticus 1:17)

In a pan it shall be made with oil; and when it is baken, thou shalt bring it in: and the baken pieces of the meat offering shalt thou offer for a sweet savour unto the Lord. (Leviticus 6:21)

And thou shalt bring for a drink offering half an hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord. (Numbers 15:10)

That they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons. (Ezra 6:10)

Then we see the perfect sacrifice in Christ.

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.  But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.  Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein ; which are offered by the law;  Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.  By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.  Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.  Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;  And having an high priest over the house of God;  Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works (Hebrews 10:1-24)

And the sweet smelling savour it is unto God.

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. (Ephesians 5:2)

And those who are born from above are now a sweet savour of Christ.

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:14-17)

We, children of the most high God, now offer ourselves as a sacrifice unto God, through Christ....our obedience in killing the flesh, rejecting the world and following after Him with an enduring faith. This would be a sweet smelling savour.

How can we godly women offer sweet smelling savour unto God through our lives?  Let's look at some examples:

* When you repent and forsake your sins.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Proverbs 28:13

* Every day you trust in our Savior.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

* When you give glory to God and praise His name.

I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high. Psalm 7:17

* Each day you shine your light and do your good works.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

* When you endure through trials.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; [3] Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. [4] But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:2-4

* Forgive as you are forgiven.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: Matthew 6:14

* Being a godly example.

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

* Being thankful.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Colossians 3:15

* Being content.

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Philippians 4:11

* Doing your reasonable service as a godly woman serving others.

Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not. [10] So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. Luke 17:9-10

* Every time you submit to and obey your husband.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Ephesians 5:22

* Every day you put on your headcovering and biblical clothing.

For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 1 Corinthians 11:6

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; [10] But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 1 Timothy 2:9-10

* Loving and edifying the brethren.

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:13

* Ordering your life to honor God.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:1-2

* Redeeming the time for God's Glory.

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16

* Sharing the gospel.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15

* Obeying even to loss.

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

* Bearing and raising your children.

I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 1 Timothy 5:14

* Not being ashamed of God or His people.

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:32-33

* Having a meek, quiet and shamefaced manner.

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 1 Peter 3:3-4

* Hating the world and every false way.

Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Psalm 119:104

* Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Psalm 98:4

* Meditating on His Word.

I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. Psalm 119:15

* Separating from false converts / disobedient professed believers.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

* Bearing persecution for His glory.

Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. Hebrews 13:13

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 5:12

* Being humble and correctable.

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Philippians 2:3

* Loving God.

Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matthew 22:36-37

*Loving our neighbor.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:39

* Loving the brethren.

And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

There are many more but maybe you examine your life can list some of your own which would be a good exercise:-) Yes, we godly women continue to discuss thes same characteristics about our lives but that's what God has called us to and that's what is pleasing to Him.

Praise God, let us be a sweet smelling savour unto our Father which is in heaven. Brother Jim wrote an article called "An Abomination to God, are You One" you can find that HERE.  Let that not be us sister saints as an abomination would be a stench to our Father.

I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. Amos 4:10

Make sure your foundation is built from a biblical GOSPEL as without it we are lost.

Let us all encourage one another to press on.

Love to you all,

Sister Deb

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-3
