Colors for Biblical Clothing

 Good evening sister saints!

I hope you all are doing well in this day the Lord has given us!

Brother James suggested I do this post after I sent him a picture I took and shared what a sister said about it.

She commented something to the fact that the clothing blended into the trees. We (brother James and I) both appreciated that and it sparked a blog post to help us sisters chose our colors when buying or sewing clothes.

I want to start off by linking brother James article on it HERE. You may want to read that then come back here because I'm going to add a woman's perspective to it.

One thing that brother James questioned was why there are supposed colors that seemed to be male and female. We determined that it was a cultural thing that we wanted nothing to do with it and so we choose to wear colors that either of us could wear. If I was looking at a pink shirt or skirt I pictured brother James wearing a pink tunic with pink pants. That helps me a lot in my clothing choices because it helped kill my flesh in wanting the "pretty" colors.  The next verse helps us women in choosing what would be most God honoring:

In Like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array

1 Timothy 2:9

Think "shamefaced"...

Are the colors you choosing showing shame or bashfulness towards men or  drawing attention to yourself (like a pink tunic and pants would on a man) ?

And "sobriety"...

Self control... It's something we have to exercise in this present world full of every temptation one can think of, including such topics as this.  1 Timothy 2 and 1 Peter 3 will both show us we are NOT to adorn the temple of God externally...

While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. [3] Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; [4] But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. [5] For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:1 Peter 3:2-5

But instead we are to adorn ourselves internally with what is in the heart (meek and quiet spirit) meaning we now have a heart after God not our flesh. The holy women of old give us great examples of that as we can see in Scripture.

Let's be careful of something else. Even though we know we are not to adorn ourselves with patterns or fancy materials, a person can adorn with colors and let me share how. Picture a bright pink head covering, bright yellow shirt and purple skirt with orange shoes and a red purse. Ok maybe not that drastic so how about a man in purple pants with yellow shoes and a black shirt?

As we choose colors we should look to see that they are shamefaced, sober, and represent a meek and quiet spirit.  We have found such colors to be earthy colors such as you see in the picture above and I will share a picture of the color shirts I wear.

The Bible teaches us we are to be lowly and humble in our transformed heart so how can we do that while we have pride, vanity and try to look pretty on the outside? Just some things to ponder and hopefully that helps us all in choosing colors that are God honoring and not self pleasing.

Of course I have to point out that unless you are born from above and have a new heart and new mind in Christ, then these good works will mean nothing.  See the GOSPEL and test yourself  and let us know if we can help you.

I made some soup, have some...

Have a joyous evening sisters!

Much love to you all.
