Potatoes and Praise

Greetings sister Saints!

Once again, let us praise our heavenly Father for another day that we have been set free to serve Him and not the evil one who is roaming the earth looking for those he can devour.

More projects have been complete and maybe tomorrow a tour of the second guest cabin after we're doing painting the old rv that brother James turned into storage.

Lots of clothes washing, food cooking, van organizing and such went on for Titus 2 works today.  I'm thankful to be a godly woman and able to do all that is set before me.

I was thinking about what to share today (yes that can be a task in itself :-) when 'potatoes' came to mind.  Ever since I've drastically changed my diet (which has helped me tremendously), I've been eating a lot of potatoes and it makes me think of a family.  They had many children and very little money but were joyous in the Lord, giving Him praise for all things.  One of the best crops that seemed to grow for them, in great abundance, was potatoes, of which they ate a lot of for...

...most of the year and they were thankful and praised God for supplying their food!  It makes me think of:

Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Exodus 16:4

And....

So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord : for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. [6] And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
1 Kings 17:5-6

And...

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Matthew 6:26

And...

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

He said, Bring them hither to me.

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Matthew 14:16-21

(and more examples if you go look.)

So we see that God takes care of His people although it may not be the way they like, but it's the way He sees fit and for the best.  So this family I was talking about, was blessed with potatoes and so she learned how to cook them in many different ways.  She said they never got tired of them but were just joyous and thankful, praising God for them all. She had a menu for each day of the week and stuck to it, loving the fact that she never had to spend time trying to figure out what to cook for their meals.  The shopping list was basically the same each week (very little) and expenses were kept low because of her diligence and simplicity.  Praise and honor to God were their focus, not food and such things.  Unlike what we see in the stiff necked Israelites....

And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

Numbers 11:4-6

And what happened with their selfish lack of thankfulness?

And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote the people with a very great plague.

Numbers 11:32-33

I think of such things this time of year when the pagans are celebrating their pagan day of Christ-Mass, rushing around to prepare all that food, the delicacies and endless varieties with an enormous expensive bill behind it.  The wrath of God is coming for such disobedience and I pray some will have eyes to see and repent.  It's not all about a pagan day, it happens all year long in various ways. Professed believers live and act like the pagans do in their sinful lives yet claiming His name.  Their fruit shows they don't have the Holy Spirit otherwise they wouldn't do such things.

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

 1 John 2:3-6

So back to the potatoes and praise!  I love sharing that story because it shows that the family was more focused on the Lord than their own lives and what they ate.  It shows a thankfulness and contentment and a great example in this life of plenty that is available to most people.  I can relate to that greatly as I have had physical issues that have limited my foods and for that I'm grateful because I thought I was thankful before, I'm even more thankful now with less.  Praises to God for everything He provides us.  We are to be content with food and raiment because those are the bare necessities to get us through life and the rest is nothing compared to the hope that lies before us if we endure.  That hope is what we want to share with others and how you do that is through the biblical gospel, you can find that HERE.  Without being born again, becoming a new creation, you cannot enter the kingdom of God (John 3:3)

It's interesting that the world always thinks more....more is better but in this life of Christ we see that less is better which goes along with:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

I love how God's ways are opposite of the worlds ways.  Interesting thought popped into my mind about God's ways not being as the world's ways.....

My grown daughter (who is not a believer) called and asked me what I thought about a popular short video about God and His love. I explained the difference between God's Word and that (unbiblical)  video and she said this....

"I thought it couldn't be right because if everyone likes it then it probably isn't right with God."

Even the blind can see through the hypocrisy of the luke warm 'so called' Christians.  Yes, it sounds mean saying 'so called' but I say that because they claim His name but they don't look like or act like one of His people.

Anyway, let us shine our lights brightly sisters so that those who are blind may see the truth and strive to come to the light.

Hold fast sister saints and let us rejoice and sing praises to the Lord for all things.

Much fervent, godly love to you.,

Sister Deb

Brother James did a teaching yesterday called The Theme of the Bible is Not God Loving Men, you can listen to it below.
