Beware of Bad Translations

Greetings sister saints!

I want to warn us sisters about some areas in the bible that we godly woman have to watch out for and make sure we are looking at the greek words, because the translated words we have in some of our bibles can be misleading.   For instance, let's look at the word 'woman' in 1 Corinthians 11. 

I don't know what translation that is but it's misleading and adding to / taking away form God's Word (which we are warned about in Revelation) by using the word 'wife'.  Let's look at the real meaning.

It should say 'woman', not wife because if we look at that same word in other areas scripture, the word 'wife' does not work.  Let's see some.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.  Acts 1:14   

(So only wives were allowed to join them?)

And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 

Acts 5:14  

(Only wives were added to the body?)

And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.  Matthew 15:38  

(There were only wives in among the multitudes?)

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.  

1 Timothy 2:11-12   

(So by their theology only the wives have to be silent in the body and can't have authority but women who aren't married can?)

And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. 

 Acts 22:4  

(Only wives were persecuted and thrown into prison?)

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 

John 4:7 

(The woman at the well was not a wife, Jesus even said so.)

You see how by not testing things a person can be misled?  

Let's move on to another example.  

1 Timothy 2:9 

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

The key words I'm looking at are 'modest apparel'.  Let's look and see what they mean in the greek.

Modest:

Today's definition of modest means nothing like that and it's left to the perception of whoever wants to make up what modest is.  Let's keep going and put them together.

Apparel:

So let's look at what it really says:

Orderly, of good behavior long robes / dresses.  (And then it also teaches they are to be shamefaced and undorned etc. You can see many teachings on women's clothing HERE.

Let's look at one more for us women.

New King James (and other versions) have added the word 'merely"  

Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel 

(1 Peter 3:3 NKJV)

That's adding to God's word because by using the word 'merely' it means you can adorn your outsides with all that.  That's a lie, we are NOT to adorn our outsides and instead have our adornment come from within by a meek and quiet spirit as the Holy Spirit indwells in us.  

(Be warned, italicized words have been added into the translations.) 

Those are 3 very important areas for us women and I wanted to warn those of you who might not know.
