Ugly Covered Women????

 Greetings sisters in Christ!

Praises to those who are striving in all truth, not allowing the world or satan to sway you in any way!

We see the demise of professed believers all around us.  We don't know if people fall back, were never born again or were deceived into false doctrine, all of which is not good:-(

Many years ago when I was a babe in Christ, brother Jim was talking to a man that had originally been a German Baptist, then Amish, then Mennonite, the a branch off the Charity group, then another subgroup that split off them...sad story as it seemed at the time we met him (while he was in a sub group of Charity) that he might be seeking truth. I wrote a post about it here on the sisters blog a a year or so ago and I'll paste it here as I want to add something to it and show you the end result of such 'so called' small things.

***********************************************

Many years ago brother Jim stopped at a natural food store and found it was run by a man who used to be a German Baptist.  His testimony was that as he was reading God's word he saw through their man made rituals so he left them and through his life (with a wife and many children) he seemed to be seeking truth.  At one point in the many spiritual discussions with brother Jim, he said he wasn't sure if he was born again so brother Jim offered to study the word with him.  He set up a time and when it came around, he backed out saying he had obligations and faded away.  Brother Jim warned him about man made religion, mass deception, all the various ecumenical ways etc. but as time went on we saw subtle signs that showed he was befriending the world and it's ways.  In love brother Jim would keep reaching out to warn him, and to no avail as he kept making excuses and covering his sins.  Those subtle signs manifest themselves to be exactly what they looked like and now his family is on the fast track of being swept away,

I was so grieved for them... so sad to see the destruction of sin being introduced into his family (which at that time he had 12 children) and one of them had already left to go into the world and became very vile and dark.

So on our last trip through Wisconsin our route went through the  the town where that man was and I blurted out "We should stop at  ******'s and encourage him to repent."  Brother Jim said 'You know, about a half hour ago I thought of that', so we did.  We were there only a few minutes and sisters, I went into shock.  My mind flashed back to many times brother Jim pleaded with him to repent before this happened.  It was like I just witnessed a horrible accident where people died and here I was looking at the destruction of a spiritually dead man who lead his family into spiritual darkness.

And later that night I learned that son who went into the world, had just just committed suicide!

I cried for them because we actually saw this man who at one time seemed to be seeking life... choose death.

Now I want to add some more details on this.  Way back in the beginning of our short relationship with them, I was still learning in the area of clothing. (I was wearing dresses and skirts along with a headcovering but I was still somewhat decorated and it wasn't the loosest of clothing.  My headcovering not fully covering either.)  At that time, their family looked like Mennonites but with a Charity headcovering and I wondered where they got that look from, did God's word outline that for them and I couldn't find it? At my first opportunity, I began asking her questions and she seemed confused when I said God's Word teaches women to wear dresses but I wanted to know more details about what kind etc.  I had to explain to her that 1 Timothy 2:9 says 'apparel' which means 'katastole' which is like a dress today.  That really confused me as to why a woman would dress and cover herself but not even know God's word commands it?  (I quickly learned that most anabaptist type groups follow man made traditions, not God's word.) At one point she said:

"Sometimes I think we look like ugly covered women."

I was shocked to hear that from her.  I'll be honest and say that I was still killing my prideful flesh in this area and to hear her say that stumbled me.  I thought someone of her maturity (having supposedly been in the faith for that many years with 12 children) would be encouraging to me and help me out but sadly that wasn't the case.  It wasn't long before brother Jim parted with them because they wouldn't repent of the sins we saw at that time.

Her comment echoed through my head and as I matured, I saw what a dead fleshly statement that was.  I just happened to look her up the other day and see she is now uncovered, wearing worldly clothes.  Their family is a spiritual disaster, they have shipwrecked their faith and joined the world.

We hear it all the time... "Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear on the outside, God looks on the inside."   Really?  Brother Jim did a teaching on how important it is, you can see that HERE.

He even went into detail on another post about tunics / robes for men from the Old Testament to the New Testament.  You can see that HERE.

Biblical clothing and headcovering are very important as you can see God gave them to us! I'm sure some of you might (in your flesh) agree with her statement of being ugly, and if you do, I encourage you to look at yourself through spiritual eyes, not fleshly.

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. (Proverbs 31:30)

Fleshly, worldly women highly esteem their hair, fancy, harlot looking clothing, jewelry, makeup etc...and think that's what makes them beautiful and worth something. What does our Father say about that?

And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.  Luke 16:15

And in Isaiah 3 we see that the daughters of Zion were haughty in all their fancy attire:

Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

Vs 16

And in the next verses God is going to take it all away and smite them, go read it.

No....clothing yourself biblically and covering your head will not make you a godly woman. Only God can do that through the gospel. You have to have faith in Christ, repent, be born again, follow Jesus in holiness and obedience and endure through that the rest of your life. You can read the fullness of the gospel HERE. If you have not been transformed, clothing will do nothing for you...this post is for those who claim to have become a new creation in Christ.  You have left the old behind and are now seeking truth in the Word of God, obeying as you learn.  Sisters, what do we see in God's word as a beautiful woman?  What character traits would she exibit?

I've done a post on it, you can read it all HERE but I'll paste some of it here:

You can see that that women are made beautiful from within by God.  Dressing and covering our temple of the Holy Spirit, shows honor and obedience to our Father.  Calling ourselves 'ugly covered women' is a blatant dishonor to our Father and shows a lack of transformation from the inside.  Or at the least, much fleshly pride that has to be swiftly dealt with lest she be swept away....as we've seen happen.

I warn you sisters, this can happen to anyone.  We especially see it in women who are married to either unbelievers or 'professed' believers that are disobedient to the Word.  When they are born again, they toss out their worldly clothes and dress biblically and headcover...until their husband starts to complain.  Or he stops being seen in public with her.  He may try to pull out the 'you should submit to me' and get her to change.  She then begins to please him instead of God which means he is now her idol.  She may stop putting on her headcovering at home so that he doesn't have to see it and when she goes out with him it has become much smaller so as to look like a fancy scarf or something.  The clothing gets a bit more fashionable with a few decorations and patterns....next thing you know, she's (at best) looking like a modified (unbiblical) Baptist or pentecostal so that she can fit in with both the world to please her husband and deceive herself to thinking she's pleasing God also.

1 Peter 3 says we are not to please our husband in the flesh by adorning hair and clothing etc....it's ALL supposed to come from the inside. Go read it for yourself.

Can I help some of you out here also?  I used to come across this word a lot when I was learning and still continue to hear people defend unbiblical clothing by saying we don't have to be frumpy.  What does 'frumpy' mean?

Frumpy: dressed in an unattractive way. Having a dull, unflattering or untidy appearance.

Please...call me frumpy all day long, I'll own it, because there is nothing attractive or flattering about my clothing:-) My clothing is clean, maybe wrinkled from living in a van and have a stain or two but so would the apostles and our Savior's robes from living on the road as well.  Biblical clothing would be considered frumpy in today's world...I'll take it because I'm not part of this world.

Are you?

Ugly covered women???  Nope, those who were bought by the blood of Christ are as precious as rubies, if they follow after Him in obedience.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? [20] For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

If we are transformed inside by the power of the Holy Spirit and we are striving to be godly woman then we are beautiful covered women...amen?

Stand strong on the word sisters and don't fall off it.  We love you all and are cheering you on in the faith.

Blessings and peace,

Sister Deb
