Simple Sewing Substitute

Image
Greetings sister in Christ, I pray you are all strong in the Lord and being obedient, out of love for what our Savior has done. This is a simple keeper of the home tip for those of you who don't know, or knew and never tried it. I don't recommend using it to create full pieces of clothing but it's great for low pressure areas such as hems, minor tears or if you cut part of your sleeves off and have a raw edge to take care of (like I did).  It's awesome to have for those quick fixes that you don't have time to grab a needle and thread or set up the sewing machine and for those of us on the road it's a major blessing! I don't have any experience with other brands except this one.  I'll also say that if you are concerned about perfection, don't bother.  Be careful about having a perfectionist mindset, you can read a post on that HERE .   When I did the arms of a blue button up shirt (I know nothing about materials and what to call them

A Helpful Tool, God's Perfect Timing and Beautiful Mountains

Image
Greetings in love to our sisters in Christ! Praise God for waking up one more day to serve Him and if we endure we will someday be with Him! Shedding this world and the trials in it but we must endure through it first.  This is our reasonable service, see Romans 12:1-2.  Amen! Endure we shall and I have been through much physical trials but my countenance has been joyful and ready to do the Lords work. He helps us endure '' through " not necessarily " from " trails.  Not long ago I shared about HEAT PADS being a good tool for those of you who would need something like that, today I'm going to share a little tool that helps me in other ways. I've had this little blender for over a year and we've used it off and on for smoothies and blended drinks, but lately I've been needing to make soft foods (and it seems to be helping me).  Praise God for little things like this and yes, you can do this in the van life, off grid.  Our generator

Buckets and Bread

Greetings sisters! We have been traveling a lot lately and still have another leg of our journey to go until we reach another tourist trap / destination.  We have to go through and around some mountains (we don't go over big ones though because we prefer to look up at them rather than down from them) and then we may or may not have reception off and on throughout our time there.  It all depends, we shall see. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. James 4:15 Anyway, on the way here we put to good use our new tool. It's a collapsible bucket!  It's great because it fits into a small space until we need it.   On our trip we were looking for water and thankfully we found a place that offers it to travelers, free of charge.  When you're on the road you really get excited when you see one of these things: Water spigots are a joyous sight and our bucket worked out perfectly.   I had just washed clothes the day befor

Cooking White Rice in a Thermal Cooker

Image
Greetings sisters in Christ! Are you standing strong in the Word and looking for that blessed hope? Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ Titus 2:13 Not long ago I did a post about thermal cooking, you can read that HERE .  In that post I said I'd share about how to cook rice in it, after I figured out a good ratio, so here it is:-) At this point I've only done it in a big batch because I wanted left overs and boy did I have a lot left over!!! (We ate off it for several days:-) I used 2 1/2 cups of long grain white rice and 4 cups of water.  (I also added a tablespoon of dried onions and a drizzle of oil.)  I brought it to a boil, poured it into the thermal cooker, wrapped it up and walked away for 2 hours.  When I opened it, all the rice was fully cooked, not mushy and all I had to do was fluff it with a fork.  It was rather tightly packed but no big deal.  The cooking time is normally 1 1/2 - 2 t

Hand Washing Clothes With a Clothes Plunger (Off Grid)

Image
Greetings sisters in Christ, I hope you are all doing well today?  We are working hard on our 'to do' list before we head out on the road again to share the gospel good news, and we're getting closer!  With the world going the way it is, I thought I'd share with you how to hand wash clothes with a plunger so that you can be prepared if need be. (If you don't have to pay for water, or pay very much for it, you can save money by doing this.)  I've been washing clothes by hand for many years, even when we hand pumped all our water back at our former homestead in Wisconsin, and think it's one of the most satisfying jobs for a keeper at home.  We all have our own likes and dislikes so if you don't care for it, no problem :-)  (In another post I will share a different clothes washing device I use.) Since we live off grid we have to run the generator to pump our water so I like to fill a 50 gallon barrel full so I always have it. In warmer weather

Man Made Traditions and Mindsets

Image
Greetings sisters in Christ! Today I want to talk about man made traditions and mindsets.  We know there are many man made traditions in the unbiblical, worldly, denominational organizations, what I'm talking about are the ones we were trained to do in our every day life, that set boundaries that may unnecessarily trap us.  Brother Jim and I have found a lot of them in our life after we began living in our van.  It's opened our eyes to the American mindset that everyone in this country has grown to know.  Some of these might stretch your mind and I'm not saying they are sinful, I'm simply bringing up ideas for you to examine in your own life.  (I'm sure many of you in other countries can relate to some of these as well as find your own.) * Eating 3 meals a day .  It always seemed like a trap to me as a mother, trying to keep all the children from snacking so that they were hungry at meal time. Then you have to argue with them throughout the entire meal to eat
