Modify a Skirt Waist

Image
Greetings sisters in Christ! Praise God for every day we have to glorify our Father by being a living example of a transformed life, to those around us.  Let the word go out. This is just a quick post on how to modify a skirt waist, based on a conversation with a sister about finding clothes at thrift stores and modifying to fit us.  It's very easy to do and if you have a sewing machine you can do it in about 5 minutes.  It takes longer to set up the machine than it does to modify:-) See the picture below. (I'm not an artist:-) All you need to do is sew the corners of the skirt to take it in just enough that it won't fall off your hips.  Cut off the excess material and you are done!  It works best if you leave the skirt right side out so that you don't have a raw edge against you. Yep, it looks unfinished and yep, you may have a bulge there, yep it might make the skirt stick out a bit more in the hip area.  What do I say to that? If you are concerned about those issues

Sewing Tunics

Image
Greetings sisters in Christ! I hope your day is joyous in the Lord, giving Him thanks and glory!  For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the  Lord  of hosts. Malachi 1:11  I'm really enjoying this time here to catch up on all the things we've been wanting to do and homestead projects.   I dug out my sewing machine and sewed Jim some tunics....the easy way:-)  All I do is take one of his shirts and add an extension on the bottom.  The extension is the bottom of another shirt that we got on sale at the thrift store.  No the colors don't match but that's whats so great about my husband....he doesn't care and has taught me to be the same way.  It's clothing to cover our body and we should be thankful for it. You could add extensions fro

Hand Sewing and Humbleness

Image
Good day sisters! Today I want to share a humbling Titus 2 story to encourage you:-) Brother Jim decided that he wanted extra long shirts to make them a more tunic length for extra coverage (biblically) and because we cannot find such things while traveling, (it's even hard to find them on the internet) I decided to take things into my own hands...literally! He wears basically the same kind of shirt and has several of them so I took one and cut off several inches from the bottom and hand sewed it to the bottom of another shirt.  It's not hard to do but takes quite a while and it looks hand sewn but that's one of the things I love about brother Jim.  HE DOESN'T CARE!  It could have a crooked seams and be uneven between the front and back (just like the shirt I did :-) and he's just thankful to have it!  Just seeing his attitude in such menial things has helped me get over myself in many areas that don't matter!   Hand sewing this shirt (and I will do

Sewing on a Button and Not Taking Anything for Granted

Image
Greetings sisters! We are praising God for allowing us to make it to our Wisconsin destination safely.  We must make sure we never take for granted even one day that He gives us to serve Him! Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.     (Ephesians 2:11-13) Let us remember that it wasn't long ago (God has no timing) that we were sinners and now through the blood of Christ we are saints if we are born again in Christ Jesus, so who are we to take anything for granted but instead be always thankful.    And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giv

Sew a Simple Girls T Shirt Dress

Image
Hello Sisters, I just wanted to make a quick post on how to sew a simple girls dress using a Tshirt and some fabric to sew on the bottom.  I looked and cannot find the original source of this hand draw picture as I found it on many websites. Here are the blown up steps: Keep in mind that Tshirts are okay for undeveloped girls and be sure that it has sleeves on it.  Also you want plain, unadorned materials in keeping with 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Peter 3. Remember, these are simple cloths to cover the body so if you don't do it exactly right or something is a bit crooked, your daughter won't care, neither will God! I hope this helps you. God be praised! Sister Deb The biblical Gospel... https://www.dontperish.com/the-gospel.html

Sew a Simple 2 Panel Skirt

Image
Hello Sisters! If you are like me, you may have a hard time finding skirts that are long enough and not adorned.  If so, I have come up with a really quick and basic skirt you can easily sew (if I can sew it anyone can!) and simple to adjust to your measurements. Below you will find a rough hand sketch of how to do it.  My suggestion is to make the bottom as wide as possible so it's easier to walk depending on how long your walking stride is. On the instructions it says to fold the fabric which worked for the piece I had, you may need to buy 2 pieces and lay them out separately, which is easy to do as well.   Add caption First you want to lay out your fabric with the good side facing each other.   Take your waist measurement and divide it by 2 then add 2 inches. (I encourage you to be generous on the measurements)  Mark that on the top of the fabric for the waist.  Draw a chalk angle line outward to the bottom then cut. Make sure to angle wide enough
