Van Life Chili (with video)

Image
Greetings sister saints! Brother Jim wanted to make a quick video to help van dwellers (or any other rolling mini home) make a healthy and inexpensive meal of chili. He wants to link such things in his van dwelling page that you can find HERE . I hope you enjoyed that and we'll be sharing more with you.    Praise the Lord for all He provides and let us be content with what we have. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. (1 Timothy 6:6-8) And most important  is the gospel, which is why we are out here sharing it with the world. You can find that HERE and test yourself. Love in Christ, Sister Deb

Heating Water Off Grid in Van Life

Image
Greetings to our Titus 2 sisters!   We are grateful to have arrived at our destination and are thankful for yet another productive day.  How is you day going sisters? I thought it was time to get on a Titus 2 post so I'm going to share about the various ways we heat water on the road in this van life. We know some people are interested and for others it may help if you end up out here too. I used to just use a small propane camping stove but we went through a time where the cannisters were hard to find and with what's going on in the world, who knows when 'they' might begin restricting supplies etc.   We talked about alternatives and I found this... An inexpensive, small 800 watt coffee maker that runs on our small generator.  Gas to run the generator is much less costly than the propane canisters (@ $3.50+ per) so we save money doing it:-) And brother Jim came up with another idea.  See that hole? That's the exhaust hole for the

Got a Lot Done On This Trip

Image
Praises to our obedient sisters! May the Lord be glorified in our lives, amen! Once again I have no clue what to title my post and sometimes I'm pretty black and white, lacking creativity and other days, well it flows better. We have a destination in mind that once we get there, we will hold up for several days working online ministry, street sign flying and potentially go stand out at a religious place.  We are 2 hours away and planning on being there tomorrow, Lord willing. It was a beautiful day to travel and we actually accomplished a lot during this trip.  In one town, we really redeemed the time: * Free lunch from a coupon * Completed a job * Took a walk  * While taking a walk brother Jim made an audio * Redeemed a coupon for bagels in a store * While in the store getting bagels I gave the gospel to a woman worker * Free water from the gas station * Brother Jim gave the gospel to two gas station workers When we arrived in this town (thanking the Lord) for the night, we got ga

The Gas-less Generator

Image
Greetings sisters in Christ! How is your day or evening going?  We are doing well!  It's been raining most of the day so we decided to just park all afternoon and evening and stick out the rain until tomorrow.  With the dampness and chilly temps it makes it pretty cold so we dug out the little heaters, put up the blankets on the door and windows and were all set up for the duration of the evening, working online ministry.  It was getting pretty cozy as the heaters tried to outdo the cold air.     And then... We heard it. That dreaded sound.   I looked up at brother Jim and said ' OH NO!!!!! " The lights flickered. The heaters turned off. And it went dark. The generator ran out of gas :-(   So we took down the window coverings and brother Jim started the van. We are now all cozied back up in the van, finishing our ministry work.   That's my attempt at trying to capture the moment with my lack of drawing skills:-) We just roll with what happens in life and always being o

White Noise Sound Machine for Van Life

Image
Greetings to our sister saints! This is just a quick post with a helpful hint for those in the van (or RV) life and could also be beneficial for those with children or if you live in a noisy area of town.   Here's a video of a white noise sound machine that we purchased, this isn't to promote any certain brand, it's more so for the idea of a useful tool. This one cost a little over $20 which I thought was a very fair price for the quality.  (I actually got it free from my survey credits :-) This is a great blessing for us while we're on the road preaching the gospel . Have a joyous day sisters. Love, Sister Deb

Van Dwelling, Tiny House Off Grid Stove

Image
Greetings sisters! We often get questions as to how we do things in our van and tiny off grid house so I thought I'd share this one with you...what I use to cook with.  I may have shared in passing if a previous post but this one will be linked in brother Jim's van dwelling tip page. The picture below is a one burner propane stove or as I call it, a cooker. It uses 3 lb propane cans, of which you can see connected to it. You simply turn the knob and light it with a match or striker and it's ready to go.  In order to save money and not use the propane cans up too fast, I make sure my cooking is minimal and use the 'heat and wait' method as I call it.  For instance, instead of boiling a big pot of water for pasta then cooking it another 12-15 minutes, burning up a lot of propane, I simplify it.  I put the pasta in the pan, cover it with water, cover the pot, bring it to a boil then turn it off and wait.  I do that with stir fry veggies, eggs etc.  Some things I will

From Much to Meager

Image
Good afternoon to our obedient sisters in Christ! We were traveling through a town when we saw something interesting of which brother Jim said I should use for a post here on the sisters blog.  We notice such things because we are among them all the time and they are some people's homes; many are just for vacation but there are those who also live in them full time.  We see some that cost much: Some that are in the middle: And some that are pretty meager: From much to meager. It makes me think of the life of a person coming from the world with the desires to have much (big house, nice cars, the best food, fashionable clothing, big bank accounts, vacations etc)  and being transformed into a new creation by the blood of Christ... then wanting what is meager in this world, just to get by cuz it's all going to burn one day, anyway. I'm sure you sisters think the same way, wanting for less rather than more.  Being appreciative of the home you have, thankful that we are provided

Am I Trapped In the Van Life?

Image
Good evening sisters in the Lord! Brother Jim received an email from a man and after some dividing of the word, it was shown this man is in heresy and his house is not in biblical order.  Instead of addressing the issues, he took a shot at Jim, through me.  Read the email he sent... Brother Jim responded to him that I like the van life more than he does!  I was thinking about this today as we are at our homestead for a time to get some projects done and I was rejoicing that I was blessed to do regular household chores!!!!  I had a bunch of corn that we found for a great deal and I need to get it dried before we leave.  Like 140 cans:-) I drained it... ...and put it in the dehydrators. Then I started a fire to help dry it and I plan to bring it with us on our travels.   Jim set up the big generator so that we could run the well for water and I filled the containers as that's how us off gridders make sure we have enough water on-hand for a few days. I washed clothes and hung them ou

Keeping Warm in the Vanlife

Image
Greetings sisters! How are you today?  I hope your answer was something to the fact that you are strong in the Lord or at least striving to be:-) This life we live is for Him and if we don't forget that, then we are able to push through all things, by His strength! We are coming into fall weather here and along with that comes challenges, such as precipitation (rain, snow or ice) and the cold.  We actually prefer colder rather than warmer (except for bitter winter weather) and welcome it but we also look for ways to make it a bit more easy to bear by finding ways to stay warm.  Of course, proper winter clothing but besides that we have insulated our van roof (as I've mentioned in a previous post.) And I hung some fleece blankets on the walls by using magnets.  (The van walls are metal.) I randomly hand sewed the round magnets in-between the double layer to help hold it up to the walls.  This all helps in both cold and hot weather.  Brother Ji
